Britain’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has made urgent plans to deploy up to 2,000 more soldiers in case the G4S security firm fails to deliver on its revised target of 7,000 security staff for the 2012 London Olympics.
After MoD officials started to work with G4S to get a better grasp of the problems facing the company, Whitehall sources told of contingency plans to call up to 2,000 more military soldiers to provide security during the London Olympics, reported the Guardian.
The contingency plans come less than a week after the British Home Secretary, Theresa May, authorized the call-up of 3,500 extra troops because G4S could not supply 10,400 forces for Olympics security.
The London Olympics security fiasco also forced British officials to draft in US security agents at a number of airports in order to provide security during the sporting events.
Moreover, following the security fiasco, commanding officers in Britain announced British occupying forces in Afghanistan would have to extend their six-month stay in the country by up to a month.
Meanwhile, the chief executive of G4S, Nick Buckles, admitted that his company’s failure to meet its Olympic obligations had turned into a nationwide humiliation. More to read on: www.presstv.ir
