US troops may still see combat in Afghanistan despite relinquishing leadership in the mission to Afghan security forces, John Allen, the commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), said. Allen stressed that US and NATO forces will shift to a supportive role with Afghan forces taking the lead in fighting, but that they will not disengage from combat until 2014, when ISAF troops are scheduled to pull out of the country.
